new home project

Now that the aftermath of the bathroom reno is all done (remember that the bathroom led to a new family room ceiling, new hardwood floors, a new stained staircase, and newly painted walls?).  The bathroom project started January 3rd and we got everything completed (after the domino effect of things that occurred) just after July 4th.  So, 6 months total.  Well everything's done now, and we are ready to do a little more work!

There are 2 things on the list for the rest of this year.  First: outdoor.  Second: basement.

Starting with the first project - the outdoors.  Our front door is in bad shape.  Proof:

The door frame is made from a soft wood (they think it's douglas fir).  And, it's rotting.  With all the storms and bad rain we had this spring, the door was actually leaking.  The guys who re-did the floors noticed that the sub floor showed water damage. We also found water on the basement walls just under the door.  Therefore, we need a new (and much nicer) door!

But, we don't want just a door and for the same thing to happen over time.  Our front door isn't kept out of the elements at all.

Our house doesn't tilt to the right as demonstrated in that picture.  That's just a great photographer ;)

We needed some help coming up with designs to somehow cover the door.  This will also REALLY help with Louie when it's raining (standing in the rain with a dog isn't fun).  Enter some help from some architects/designers.

Option 1:

(option 1 doesn't come with spooky man staring at the house)

Option 2:

Option 3:

Which one do you like?  (you can click on the pictures to blow them up for some viewing help)

Which one should we choose?  We have our favorite - but we still need approval from our neighborhood association.  Stay tuned for what we decide to do!!

And for our basement, since that's probably a late fall project, we don't have specifics now.  All we need to do is finish it (nothing fancy) so that we can use it.  And it's a must for me before next spring time tornado warnings come through.

Excited for the new projects to start!!

  1. In my opinion option 3 fits the style of your house the best. Good Luck! Hopefully it will go off without a hitch!

  2. Do you get a prize if you pick the correct one? #1 kinda looks the roofs at Circle K gas station. #2 only works if you have long hair to throw over the balcony and no children who would find it fun to jump off. That leaves # 3. Which I really like and the only one that would pass the Tipton design committee!

  3. Number three - I think your mom articulated it best. ;)
